Patents Granted:
PAT NO: 6747630
Date : June 8, 2004
Title: Method to up-sample frequency rich images without significant loss of image sharpness.
Abstract: A bi-cosine filter having a scaling technique to process images for up-scaling that does not lead to loss of the high frequency content of the generated image nor leads to image artifact known as waxing and waning is disclosed. The two tap filter includes an input node coupled to receive the image data. A first multiplier couples to receive a first coefficient and the image data input. The first multiplier multiplies the image data input by the first coefficient to provide a first product. The image data input is feed through a delay element to delay the image data by a predetermined time period. Delay element connects to a second multiplier that couples to receive a second coefficient. The second multiplier multiplies the time-delayed image data by the second coefficient to provide a second product. A summer sums the first and second products of the first and second multiplier to provide this sum as a pixel data output at output node.

Patents Applied:
1. Title: Film Grain Generation and Addition.
Date : June 26, 2005
Abstract: In this invention a mechanism to create and add film grain data to the incoming mpeg decoded video stream is described. The film grain data addition to mpeg decoded stream helps in masking of mpeg artifacts like "Blockiness" and "Mosquito Noise". It also helps in creating more pleasing pictures from the ones that look more artificial ( patchy) because of datapath processing elements like mpeg noise reducer.

3. Title: Real Time 3D Motion Adaptive Architecture to Reduce Gaussian Noise in Video data.
Date : Dec 19, 2005
Abstract: In this invention we are describing a mechanism to digitally remove gaussian noise which is present in the incoming video stream. This Gaussian noise reduction in real time cleans up the video or film grain data and makes it much more visually pleasing. Along with noise reduction we have also added an on-chop noise injector and noise estimation which helps in effective tuning of noise reducer performance and also helps in demonstrating our algorithms effectiveness without the requirement of external noise injectors.

4. Title: Adaptive MPEG Noise Reducer.
Date : Nov 9, 2005
Abstract: This particular algorithm helps in reducing blocking artifacts and mosquito noise from real time decompressed mpeg video. Blocking artifacts and mosquito noise is caused mainly due to compression of video data using compression algorithms like mpeg2 and mpeg4. In pur effort to reduce blocking artifacts we first determine the block boundries both in horizontal and vertical direction and then apply filtering to neighbouring pixels. The filter length varies based on the strength of the block boundary. Also a mechanism to automatically detect if the incoming video has blocking artifacts or not is presented. Similarly we detect pixels belonging to mosquito noise regions of the image and apply edge guided filtering to reduce the effect of mosquito noise.
